Standard Rod and Ring Sizing

Proper sizing ensures smooth operation and professional results. This guide covers standard dimensions for Morgik drapery hardware components – rods, rings, and their relationships. For custom sizes or unusual applications, contact our team for specific recommendations.

Rod Diameter Selection

Rod diameter affects both visual weight and functional capacity. Larger diameters appear more substantial and span longer distances without support. Note that we can’t tell you exactly what span will work as we don’t now the weight of the fabric and use of the window.

3/8 to 3/4″ Diameter – Lightweight appearance for small windows and delicate fabrics. Maximum unsupported span approximately 36″.
1 – 1 1/4″ Diameter – Versatile standard size for most residential applications. These diameters are our most popular rods. Maximum unsupported span approximately 48″.
1½ – 2″ Diameter – Substantial presence for grand windows and lined draperies. Maximum unsupported span approximately 72″.

Ring Sizing

Ring inside diameter must exceed rod outside diameter to allow smooth sliding. Finish thickness adds to rod diameter, so rings are sized with appropriate clearance.
Standard ring inside diameters correlate to rod diameters with clearance built in. Using rings sized for a smaller rod will result in binding; rings too large will gap visibly.

Bracket Projection

Bracket projection – the distance from wall to the back of the rod must accommodate window casing, trim, and any underlayers like blinds or sheers.
Standard Projection – 3½” to 4″ for windows with minimal trim.
Extended Projection – 5″ to 8″ for deep casings, layered treatments, or clearance over radiators and air units.
Custom Projection – Any depth can be specified for unusual conditions.

Finial Proportions

Finial size should relate to rod diameter and overall window scale. Standard finials are offered in sizes appropriate for each rod diameter. Oversized or undersized finials can be specified for particular design effects.
